Outreach and Public Philosophy
Outreach to the wider philosophical community and beyond have been very important to me throughout my philosophical career. I'm currently involved in two programs at UAB that bring philosophy beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom:
Recently, I've been doing public philosophy related to Sikh ethics (one of my research areas). I wrote an op-ed for Psyche magazine (here) and was interviewed as part of a collaboration between the Global Philosophy of Religion Project and Closer to Truth (here).
As a graduate student at UNC, I spent a lot of time working with the Parr Center for Ethics, which has been recognized by the American Philosophical Association for its initiatives in outreach and public philosophy:
It's also very important to me that philosophers continue to work toward more inclusive outreach efforts. I'm passionate about further diversifying existing outreach efforts and about building new ones that cater to groups that have historically been ignored and/or difficult to access. In 2017, I co-organized a Compass workshop at UNC, which helped undergraduate students from underrepresented groups learn how to pursue and thrive in graduate study in philosophy.

- Since Fall 2022, I've been the coach of UAB's Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl team.
- I also serve as a judge for the newly-formed Alabama regional competition of the National High School Ethics Bowl.

- For several years, I was heavily involved in the National High School Ethics Bowl, serving as a judge for several years in both the national competition and the North Carolina regional competition. I was also a regular case-writer for the NHSEB, and my cases have been featured in both regional and national competitions.

- During that same year, I was one of UNC's Maynard Adams Fellows in the Public Humanities, and helped to organize a public philosophy symposium.
- For several years, I helped lead philosophy discussion groups at retirement communities in the Chapel Hill area through the Parr Center's outreach program.
