Public Philosophy

My recent work in public philosophy has focused on bringing awareness of Sikh philosophical contributions to the public.
  • I wrote an article for Psyche magazine, "Sikh ethics sees self-centredness as the source of human evil," which presents some of my work on Sikh ethics in a format accessible to the public. You can find that article here.
  • I appeared on the PBS television program Closer to Truth, hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn, to discuss Sikh philosophy as part of a collaboration with the Global Philosophy of Religion Project. You can watch a YouTube video of that episode here.
  • I gave a public lecture, "Oneness and the Foundations of Ethics" at the Parr Center for Ethics at UNC Chapel Hill. You can watch a YouTube video of that lecture here.

Back in graduate school, I spent a lot of time working with the Parr Center for Ethics, which has been recognized by the American Philosophical Association for its initiatives in outreach and public philosophy.
  • For several years, I was heavily involved in the National High School Ethics Bowl, serving as a judge in both the national competition and the North Carolina regional competition. I was also a regular case-writer for the NHSEB, and my cases have been featured in both regional and national competitions.
  • During the 2016-2017 academic year, I was one of UNC's Maynard Adams Fellows in the Public Humanities, and helped to organize a public philosophy symposium on the work of Martha Nussbaum.
  • For several years, I helped lead philosophy discussion groups at retirement communities in the Chapel Hill area through the Parr Center's outreach program.
